Cold Weather Shipping Policy

 

The weather is getting colder and the glorious days of shipping isopods largely carefree are sadly behind us now until the worst of winter runs its course.  The change of the seasons from brisk to freezing brings big changes to our shipping procedures and policies. If you’re reading this, chances are you may be eyeballing some of our outstanding land shrimp or perhaps you just stumbled here by divine luck! Either way read on for pertinent information if you plan to order isopods from our shop anytime soon.

We here at the Isopod Factory know there’s not many things better than completing a transaction that secures your new crustaceans to be in your hands living their best bioactive life within a matter of days! We absolutely want to deliver your new friends quickly and safely as possible, but at times the winter season poses significant challenges to make that happen. Rest assured we take all precautions when packing our pods as to ensure they have the absolute best chance to reach you alive and well.

This includes checking our local forecast every day and then checking your destinations’ outlook within the estimated delivery window. From there we assess the ideal carton size based on your order along with insulation and the proper heating elements to keep our friends at a comfortable stable temperature. We typically line our boxes with either half inch or 1-inch-thick foam and use heating elements like uniheat or cryopack phase 22. Several factors determine which specifics are used for a given order and shipping location, but the end result is superbly packed isopods packed and prepped to make the journey safely.

With that said, with even the best of preparations there comes a point where it’s simply too cold and we must do what is best for the animals and pause shipping until weather conditions are more favorable. Sometimes this is predictable and sometimes it can happen literally overnight. It’s no surprise that weather can be a strange beast and even less surprising that sometimes the weather forecast we receive turns out to be less than accurate.

So how do we mitigate this annoyance while enduring the deep freeze? In our case the answer is very simple- communicate! During the cold months we highly recommend you reach out to us BEFORE placing an order. This allows us to run our checks between origin and destination so we can advise if your order may be subject to additional holding time due to low temperatures. There will also be some kind of banner, graphic or similar on our home page you can quickly reference to get an idea if we are still actively shipping or locked down for the time being. This is of course just a recommendation and nothing on our site will stop you from placing an order in any weather condition. If we need to contact you about weather delays, we will do so with the contact information you provide and find a solution that works for you and keeps the isopods alive and well.

With all of this said, we want to make sure it’s understood that during times like these we act only with the safety and well-being of the isopods being the absolute number one priority. We will never dispatch live animals in circumstances where their survival is negligently put at unnecessary risk even if other establishments are doing it. Our weather and temperature cut offs are reasonable to a point there can still be some shipping during the winter but please do realize the status can change quickly with the arrival of a winter storm, an unexpected cold front or just overall consistently low temperatures.
